HDTV Deadline Now Set for Feb of 2009.
At this date all programming will be broadcast in High
Definition Digital. After that date there will be no more analog television
broadcast. At that point you must have an HDTV Integrated (off air HD tuner
built in) TV for off the air reception, or a converter box to convert the HD
signal back to analog. If you are on cable or satellite, you need to upgrade to
their HD receiver, and you don't need an integrated TV, just an HDTV
Monitor.
The HD signal is broadcast over the UHF band. Therefore all
you will need is a UHF antenna suited for your location and proximity to the
transmitters.
In Hemet, California we install a 4 or 8 bay antenna with a
digital amplifier due to the distance from LA, and the valley we are located in.
There are some pockets in the valley where the signal is blocked by hills. The
western edge of the valley, and the area east of park hill are a couple examples
of poor reception areas. For those areas I would recommend cable or satellite.
